The How
The Procedure
The process of getting an IPP involves a surgical procedure. It is essential to consult with one of our urologist experts, Dr. Kannady to determine if it’s the right choice for you. The surgery generally includes the following steps:
- Anesthesia: Prior to the procedure, we prioritize patient comfort by offering a choice between general anesthesia for a pain-free experience or a spinal block to numb the lower body. This ensures a smooth and painless process.
- Precise Incision Placement: Our skilled surgeons here at HTX Urology make a precise, small incision at a strategic location, whether in the scrotum, lower abdomen, or the base of the penis. The choice of incision site aligns with the specific implant type chosen, ensuring accurate access to the treatment area.
- Meticulous Implantation: Implanting the essential components, including cylinders, reservoir, and pump, is conducted with meticulous care. This precise placement resembles the assembly of a finely tuned instrument, guaranteeing seamless functionality.
- Expert Closure: Following implantation, our surgeons expertly suture the incisions and apply a protective dressing. These final touches are vital for proper healing, reducing infection risk, and ensuring the best possible outcome for our patients.
Recovery time varies from person to person, but most patients can resume sexual activity within a few weeks to a couple of months post-surgery.
