Bio-Identical Testosterone Pellets

Hormonal imbalance, specifically low testosterone, has a profound effect on your body. Bio-identical testosterone pellets in Houston, Texas, can alleviate the bothersome symptoms caused by low testosterone levels.

Hormonal therapy for men has become popular among people after age 30. This is usually the period when hormone levels drop 1-2% every year, leading to symptoms of fatigue, weight gain, poor sleep, low sex drive, and loss of muscle mass.

At HTX Urology, Dr. Dhir uses his expertise in men’s health to offer an option that improves quality of life by reversing andropause (lowering testosterone levels). Bio-identical testosterone pellets eliminate the need for messy creams or painful weekly injections commonly prescribed at Low T centers.

What Are Bio-Identical Hormone Pellets?

Bio-identical hormone pellets can be used to treat Low Testosterone in males. Unlike synthetic preparations such as Testosterone Cypionate, which derive from horse urine, BioTe pellets are natural and plant-derived with the exact same structure as male hormones in the body. Inserting pellets are virtually painless and only take several minutes to perform in the office. Within 7 days, the path to wellness begins.

What Are the Benefits of Bio-Identical Testosterone Pellets?

Optimizing low testosterone in males can lead to improved sleep, reduction in belly fat, stronger sex drive, and improved energy and motivation. Medical benefits, aside from improvement in hormonal symptoms, include stronger bones and better management and prevention of chronic illnesses such as hypertension (high blood pressure), heart disease, and diabetes.

Am I an Ideal Candidate for Bio-Identical Testosterone Pellets?

You may be a good candidate for bio-identical hormone pellets if you are experiencing severe andropause symptoms due to hormonal imbalance. Fatigue, irritability, weight gain, hair loss, low libido, difficulty sleeping, and anxiety may be some of the symptoms that get in the way of your day-to-day activities.

Men who transition to hormonal pellets typically do not like the experience of weekly injections of synthetic testosterone. Although these injections are cheaper, they lead to a “roller-coaster” effect where testosterone levels surge in the first few days and then drop off sharply before the next dose.

With bio-identical testosterone pellets, a sustained and optimal release of hormones is initiated, avoiding bothersome peaks and troughs to therapy. This effect usually lasts 6 months.

It is important to note that if you are still considering having additional children, all testosterone supplementations will decrease your fertility. This sperm suppression can last from 1-3 years and sometimes may be permanent.

Your Consultation with Dr. Dhir

Dr. Dhir will first consult with you in the office, review your entire medical history, and perform a comprehensive physical exam. A wellness lab panel must be checked to rule out other potential causes for your symptoms, and to confirm your hormonal imbalance. Any risk of active prostate cancer must be ruled out before starting therapy.

Finally, if you are considering having additional children, make sure to let Dr. Dhir know, as there are alternatives that do not suppress fertility.

What Is Involved During Bio-Identical Testosterone Pellet Insertion?

The actual procedure of pellet insertion takes only a few minutes in Dr. Dhir’s office. The insertion site, near the buttocks, will first be sterilized with a disinfecting wipe. Next, a 2mm incision into the subcutaneous tissue 2mm deep to the skin is made after numbing the area with lidocaine.

Pellets are inserted using an instrument called a trocar. The average male receives between 6 and 12 pellets based on the baseline testosterone levels. The pellets are as big as a grain of rice. A dressing is placed on the small incision and no stitch is needed, as the incision is quite small.

What Is the Aftercare for Bio-Identical Testosterone Pellets?

There is minimal downtime after your pellet insertion. It is recommended to avoid exercises that flex the hip for the first week after pelleting – this includes ellipticals and squats. For the first 24 hours, there may be some discomfort – ice packs and anti-inflammatory medication can be used as needed.

The dressing on your incision stays in place for one week and then may be removed; you may shower with the dressing in place, but avoid hot tubs, baths, and swimming pools for the first week. There may be instances of pellet extrusion through the skin, but this complication is rare.

What Is the Cost of Bio-Identical Hormone Pellets?

The cost of bio-identical hormone pellets varies and is not covered by insurance. The fees include the special formulation of the pellet, as well as the insertion procedure by Dr. Dhir. Please call us for more information regarding pricing and availability.
